Peep show is an on-going series of sculptures, currently including bronze-cast body parts, glazed porcelain pearls and self-portraiture with an emphasis on product-like aesthetics. A central theme for the artwork is the tacit violence hidden in situations, gestures, and words which generates reversals of positions, in this case the viewer being turned into a voyeur and a body part into an object or a product.

The words used to describe Asian femininity — “porcelain,” “silky,” “pearl-like” — expose the violence inherent in colonialism, as made evident in how materials continue to define value, desirability and vulnerability. As such, the artwork examines the difficulty of maintaining control of being perceived; the body is objectified, made into an image or a surface, whether by language, gaze, or smell. By presenting dissected parts of art history, e.g., Kai Nielsen’s The Water Mother (1921) sculpture, the artwork brings to light the violent subtext in genteel notions of beauty.

Peep show sculptures have been exhibited in several exhibitions during 2025: HARDENER 01 at the Riga Contemporary Art Fair with Pitted Dates, HARDENER 02, self-portrait and POLISHER at the Tampere Art Museum, Souvenir (left & right) and HARDENER 01 at Margot Samel Gallery in New York City, and Plug at Helsinki Contemporary.
